Tilcara

By Frieda

From Rosario we took a nightbus to Jujuy. And from there a local bus to Tilcara. This way it is a lot cheaper than going directly to Tilcara.

Tilcara is located in a wild west scenery that looks like a still from a Lucky Luke comic. It is surrounded by gorgeous mountains that show multicoloured layers of sediment. Even the gravel on the ground shows a lot of different colours. Besides the amazing mountains the area is full of tree high cactusses. Hiking around we felt like being the middle of a wild west movie.

We stayed in a very friendly Hostel with a very nice atmosphere and good advices for activities in the area. We went to see a gorge that was a two hour walk from the town. The hike was very good fun even though we felt that we were now over 2500 meters above see level. The gorge was nice but the atmosphere of this kind of nature was the real interesting part of the tour.

In the evening we went to an argentinian style barbecue and had the best steaks ever. Huge, cheap, juicy on the spot and amazingly tasteful. So good that I couldn‘t even finish the side salad.
